McCutchen Mailday #181, 182, and 183: Going Old School with new Flair

My latest trio of Cutch cards to the PC this year includes some vintage designs with a bit of fresh 21st century spin.  Featuring designs from 1966, 1983, and early 20th century designs these Topps Heritage Chome, Topps Archives Silver, and Allen & Ginter Box Topper fixed a need for my ongoing Cutch PC.  

I've previously shown off some other 2015 Topps Archives that I have acquired this year including the three 1/1s and base.  The silver border is /199

On the Heritage front I've shown the box topper, gum stain and photo variants, and even 3 Chrome parallels.  This chrome is 749/999

Sadly, I need a lot of Cutch's Allen & Ginter cards from 2015.  I will go search for some soon...

For now though, this 5x7 box topper will have to do. 

McCutchen Mailday #80: A Box Topper of sorts

My Quest for 100 new Andrew McCutchen cards has brought in some really amazing additions to the collection.  It's also forced me to seek out some more unique cards of Cutch to my collection that I normally wouldn't be searching for.  Such was the case with this 2015 Heritage Punchboard of Cutch and Hall of Famer Al Kaline.

I'm not sure of the connection between Cutch and Kaline, but I was VERY tempted to play the game on this $20 punchboard.  Many of these sell in the $20-$40 range and I was fortunate to grab one on the lower side of $20.

McCutchen Monday: 2014 Allen & Ginter Box Topper

For those that don't know, I'm an Andrew McCutchen card collector.  I've been adding his cards to my collection since his debut in 2009.  I currently sit around 500 unique Andrew McCutchen cards in my collection.  For a listing of my current collection click this link.

The latest oversized card to appear in my collection is the 2014 Allen & Ginter Box Topper.  It ran me $10.  For comparison, I included the box topper next to the base and base mini which you can see below.

McCutchen Mondays: 2010 Allen & Ginter N43 box topper

My current favorite player in baseball today is Andrew McCutchen.  Quite honestly, he might be my favorite player I've ever gotten a chance to see play. I currently own almost 300 unique cards of Cutch and hope to get that number closer to 400 by the end of the year.  Amongst my cardboard collection of Cutch are many autographs, over a dozen 1/1s, and almost enough jersey material to put his jersey back together.  Back in 2011, I created Morton Mondays, but with the lack of Charlie Morton cards available, I changed it to McCutchen Mondays so each Monday I will show off one new card from my Cutch collection.

2010 Allen & Ginter N43 box topper

My local card store recently had a 2010 Allen & Ginter box topper N43 on display in their case.  I asked if they would be willing to trade it for an Albert Pujols.  Sure enough, it was a done deal.  Granted Pujols seems more likely to go to the HOF one day and be remembered as one of the greatest 1B of all time, BUT he killed Pirate pitching for 11 years.

I don't get a chance to look at my predreadlock Cutch cards too often, but he looked a lot different 3 years ago.

Big Cutch, Little El Toro

I won myself an Andrew McCutchen 2013 Topps Heritage Box Topper jersey relic numbered 23/25 on ebay with a submitted best offer of $65.  I had seen these sell for up to $100 so even though $65 is a bit more than I would like for a plain grey swatch, I felt the need to get it now rather than wait.

Cutch has been struggling a lil this year, batting only .243 in the first 20 games.  However, there are some good signs though as he has 2 HR and 12 RBI which are both higher than last year's total at this time.  His slugging percentage for April 2013 is higher than it was last year too, which shows that he's driving the ball more, it's just not finding the gaps (YET).

There's no doubt in my mind that Cutch will end up the season hitting around .300 with 25+HR and 30+SB while driving in close to 100.  Will he make his 3rd consecutive All-Star game? Hopefully, but Starling Marte is looking pretty good too so the All-Star lineup might include 2 Pirates outfield substitutes after the likes of Upton and Braun leave.

2013 Topps Heritage Box Topper Back

The back of the box topper has an interesting note about how Cutch hit 2 multihomer games in a 3 game span making him just the second Pirates player in a quarter century with 2 multi homer efforts in a 3 game span.  The other was Pedro Alvarez who did it in 2010.

I was at the Pirates Phillies game on Monday and leaned over to the girl I'm dating in the 2nd inning and said, "2nd pitch this at bat El Toro is going to hit a HR." Wouldn't you know that Pedro connected for a solo shot giving the Bucs a temporary 1-0 lead.
