The latest addition to my Cutch purchases this year brings me this smooth as silk acquisition
Now my run of Cutch Silk Collections contains cards from 2014 (seen here), 2013, 2012, and 2011.
I'm not sure if Cutch had Silk cards in 2010 or 2009, but if he did I will have to try to track them down too.

Gobble Gobble!!!!
With all the attention I have been putting towards my Andrew McCutchen PC this year, I have completely ignored adding cards to my Jason Bay PC. This year has brought me only 2 new Jason Bay cards, but one of them was a big one containing future Hall of Famer, Miguel Cabrera.
As is customary for my blog, I started looking around for some new Turkey themed cards to show off on Thanksgiving around September.
This Turkey Red Silk Collection of the former Pirates outfielder struck my fancy for 99 cents
I hope everyone has a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving

Morton on the Mound: Smooth as Silk
Since 2011, I have been on the lookout for any of the Charlie Morton 2011 Topps Silk Collection cards. A seller on eBay has been liquidating his 30,000+ card collection selling many cards in bulk lots, master brand sets, and even some individuals. I had purchased close to a dozen cards off him along with many master sets (Upper Deck, Fleer Ultra, Donruss, Stadium Club, and Leaf). During my discussions with him, I asked if he had any numbered parallels of my main PC player, Charlie Morton.
Lo behold he had a few and I swooped in to add this Smooth as Silk edition of Ground Chuck.
It's my 7th copy of the 50 produced.

Smooth as Silk: Franky Edition
It's been almost a year since I showed off a (Smooth as) Silk Collection card on the PTR. I came across this 2013 Francisco Liriano for $2 and couldn't pass it up.
In addition to the Silk Collection card you see above, I also grabbed this gold chrome numbered 22/50 for 80 cents!!!! I just couldn't pass that up either.
Liriano has been pitching very well this year. Let's hope he can continue it throughout the season. For his 2 starts this year, he 's compiled a 2.08 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 14 strikeouts in 13 innings of work and yet he is 0-1.
Let's get Franky a W today!!!! Let's Go Bucs!!!!

Did I really need another of these? Smooth As Silk Edition
One of my 2013 Collecting Goals was to acquire 5 Charlie Morton silk cards. I did that. Even though it's not one of my collecting goals for 2014, I am still always on the hunt for 2011 Topps Update Charlie Morton silk cards numbered to 50.
Well, I can cross off another from the list. This little numbered silk ran me under $3 and is numbered 37/50 (Morton's Pirates jersey number prior to 2011 so it's an ebay 1/1). It brings me to 6 total for the 50 card print run. Only 44 more to go....
Charlie is on the mound tonight for the Bucs. Let's Go Bucs!

Smooth as Silk: Charlie Morton 2011 Topps Silk
I now own one tenth of the entire print run for the 2011 Topps Silk Charlie Morton cards. My latest ebay acquisition ran me $7 delivered. What makes this card more desirable than my other 4 silks from 2011 is that this card is Charlie's number (50) and is numbered to 50.
That's a double ebay 1 of 1!!!!!

Smooth as Silk: Andrew McCutchen 2013
I've shown off a few silks in the past. I have the 2011 and 2012 Andrew McCutchen silks and can now add the 2013 to that list.
I miss the days when the silks were white instead of this muted yellow like they started in 2012.

Smooth as Silk: 2013 Charlie Morton
In my ongoing quest to add 1 copy of every Charlie Morton card I can find, I grabbed this piece of cardboard and silk hybrid for $10.
This is my least favorite design that Topps has used for their silk collections. I hate the piss yellow they are using for the actual silks and this years boring grey and purple design does absolutely nothing for me. But hey, it's another new Charlie and is numbered to only 50 copies so I had to add it.
One of my 2013 collecting goals was to add 4 more copies of Charlie's 2011 Silk collection to my card collection. I added 3 copies of that card and now have added a 4th silk to the collection, albeit the wrong year.

Smooth as Silk: 2012 Andrew McCutchen
I don't like Topps Silk cards unless they're really cheap. I find them to be lame gimmicks. However, when I came across an Andruw McCuthcen on ebay a few months back I knew I had to take a stab at winning this card for 99 cents.+ shipping. Thanks for not knowing how to spell mr. seller. Needless to say, there wasn't any other bidders on the card. Sweet score for me!!!

Smooth as Silk: Charlie Morton 2011 Silk
I wanted to get a total of 5 Charlie Morton 2011 Silk Collection cards as part of my 2013 Collecting Goals. I'm now just one away after adding serially numbered 20/50 to the list.
I now have 20, 33, 38, 40 out of the 50 card print run.
I'll be at the Pirates game tonight watching Charlie and the Bucs take on the Mets.

Stealing an idea from Greg at Plaschke
Greg from Plaschke Thy Sweater is Argyle is trying to get all Matt Kemp/Clayton Kershaw Team Checklists from 2010 Upper Deck numbered /99. I think that is a pretty lofty goal, but decided to take a stab at getting one of my favorite players with a low print numbered card. I'm taking on the 2011 Silk Challenge of Charlie Morton.
Why Charlie Morton?
He's one of my favorite pitchers on the Pirates roster and was born in the same town as me.
Why 2011 Topps Silk?
It's one of the few series that Charlie has a hit
So with that being said...
Here's my 2 lone Charlie Morton silk cards numbered /50
I just added the silk challenge to my 2013 Collecting Goals

What will $12 get me?
$12 doesn't get you much in terms of super hits these days, but dedication to online auctions can net you a bat relic card featuring a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest sluggers the game has ever seen.
But it doesn't end there, you can also get a silk collection card of one of your favorite players
and a low numbered jersey relic of another favorite player
Yup, I'll buy stuff like that every chance I get.

Morton Monday: 2011 Silk Collection
Charlie Morton avoided arbitration today by agreeing to a one year deal with the Pirates worth $2.445 million. Charlie is currently working through off season hip surgery, but showed his electric stuff last season by posting career highs in strikeouts, innings pitched, wins, ERA, WHIP, and complete games.
Here's hoping to a speedy recovery from Ground Chuck and continued improvement in 2012.
To celebrate Charlie's arbitration victory, here's an ebay victory of my own.

I think I won this auction for less than $5 shipping included.

Trade post with Ryan's Memorabilia Blog
Mike at Ryan's Memorabilia Blog had seen the Jim Palmer/Brian Matusz dual auto I had up for trade and sent me a plethora of Pirates & Steelers cards in exchange. He saw that I was searching for more Ryan Doumit cards to add to my collection and sent me 2 Autos, a 2011 Topps Silk Collection (48/5), 2011 Diamond Anniversary, and 2 Bowman numbered parallels. As an added bonus he also included a Willie Stargell Triple Threads, and a very cool Dave Parker/Willie Stargell bat rack card. I really like that Fleer Bat Rack card. I had never seen that before and am very glad to add the card to my collection.
He also included 8 Steelers cards including 2 Roethlisberger, 2 Hines Wards, and a Maurkice Pouncey rookie. Sweet additions to the treasure room.
