McCutchen Mailday #191 - 198: Some Massive New Additions to the Cutch PC

Here's a lot of some huge MOJO PC pickups. 

In my quest to add 100 new Cutch cards to the PC this year, I have become the go to guy for a person liquidating their collections.  This All-Star patch card from 2012 Triple Threads is fricking sick!!!!

In this lot is a group of jersey relics, triple threads relics, a rookie variant, a nice gold parallel, and this amazing manu relic from Gypsy Queen. 

How nice are these new additions?  If Harper becomes an MVP this year, it will feature the 3 most recent position players to win MVPs.  Braun 2012, Cutch 2013, Harper 2015?

I've been wanting to add a copy of this "Steel" since I saw it released in 2014, but never could acquire one cheap enough for my liking.

My first die cut relic

Just your standard gold parallel from Topps Tribute.  This card looks beautiful in person. I'm going to build the rainbow of this card.

Another Cutch rookie parallel that I didn't have in my collection. This is the mahogany wood parallel from 2005 Bowman Heritage.

Being able to add 5 Andrew McCutchen autographs serially numbered less than 25 would make any collector happy in a calendar year, but I'm becoming a true super collector of Cutch and adding one more /10 to the PC just seemed fitting.

Topps Museum Framed Autos have long been one of my favorite releases year after year.  I have even started to add the Football Framed Museum Autos to my Steelers PC.

This has been on my wants list for a loooooooong time and I am glad that I can finally call it mine.

More Museum relics

Here's some more of my recent 2015 Topps Museum cards I have picked up on the secondary market

Check out that sick quad relic of Jose Bautista I snagged for under $20.  The Jays are steamrolling through the American League now with their intense power hitting mashing offense. 

Here's a jumbo jersey of Neil Walker that I got for under $8

Neil is set to become a free agent after next season.  I suspect that "The Pittsburgh Kid's" days are numbered in the Burgh.  With cost controlled infielders Josh Harrison, Jung Ho Kang, and Alen Hanson all set to be on the roster at some point next year it's likely that Walker has only about 200 games left to try and win a World Series for the team he grew up rooting for. 

McCutchen Mailday #73: 1/1 Laundry Tag

If you've been following my blog this year, you know that I have been adding a new Andrew McCutchen card to my collection every couple days.  One of my goals this year was to add 100 new Andrew McCutchen cards to my PC by year's end.  I started the year around 500 unique Andrew McCutchen cards and at the rate I am currently at, I will most likely end the year around 700 unique cards of Cutch.  It's not just base cards that I have been aggressive buying this year though.  It's also sick cards like this 1/1 Laundry Tag from 2015 Topps Museum.

McCutchen Mailday #69, 70, & 71: A Trio of Museums

When I had made arrangements to purchase a few high end 2015 Topps Museum cards from a seller, he generously included these 3 parallels of Cutch's 2015 Topps Museum base card.

Museum has the best base cards year after year.  These new additions in the Quest for 100 bring me nearly three quarters complete as of typing this (April 29th).  Adding another 30 cards by December shouldn't be an issue at all.

Starting on Sunday I will be showing off some key items in my collection that I have recently acquired.  One of them will be a 1/1 bat barrel.

McCutchen Monday: Let's Go to a Museum

Last December I showed off a 2013 Topps Museum Canvas Collection card of Cutch.  Might as well start this December off the same way...

I present to you the 2014 Topps Museum Canvas Collection of Cutch.  Based on the artwork I believe these reprinted canvas collection were drawn by sketch artist Brian Kong.  If anyone has any information if this is correct, please let me know.

Byrd is the Word: 1 of 1 Laundry Tag

I haven't been updating the site with a lot of high end stuff over the past few weeks.  I know that you have all probably started to get sick of all the Charlie Morton and Tony Sanchez parallels that I've been showing off.  I'm going to mix it up and show off my latest 1/1 laundry tag of a former Pirate.

Let me go on record and say that Topps Museum is my favorite release year in and year out.  It's the perfect high end release.  Last September, I showed off my Russell Martin bat nameplate 1/1 from last year's Museum release. That card was absolutely sick!

This might not be as sick, but it's damn close.

2014 Topps Museum Laundry Tag Marlon Byrd 1/1

That's a 1/1 laundry tag for a player who only appeared in 30 regular season games with the Pirates, but helped lead them to their first post season in 20 years.

Knowing how close Gregory Polanco was to the big leagues, I didn't want the Pirates to keep Byrd around for two more seasons, but would had loved to get him on a cheap one year deal.  He moved onto greener pastures and more stability, signing with the Phillies for a 2 year/$16 million contract last November.

I hope this card was worth the wait for all you readers that come looking for the high end parts of my collection.  Keep on reading and commenting and I'll keep writing.

The NEW Core 4: BUCN Style

The Yankees often used a phrase called the core four to discuss the four guys who were a part of the Yankees stretch of winning world series.  That list included Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera,  Derek Jeter, and Andy Pettite.  Jeter was the last member of the Core Four to not choose retirement, but his time will be coming to an end this year.

The Pirates had their first winning record in over 2 decades last season thanks in large part to four impact players who are under team control through at least 2016.
That list includes
Starling Marte (signed through 2019 with team options through 2021)
Gerrit Cole (under team control through 2019
Andrew McCutchen (signed through 2017)
Pedro Alvarez (team control through 2016)

It's highly unlikely that the Pirates will keep all four of these guys past their contracts expiration, but with these four under team control through the next 3 seasons, the Pirates have a legitimate chance to contend in the post season each year.

I won the quad relic seen above for $36 delivered about a month ago and am happy to add such a nice card featuring these four players together.  Topps has been paying a greater deal of attention to Pirates fans lately mostly because of all the exciting young talent coming through the past few seasons.

Sunday Museum

When I was really young, I used to like to go to the museum and check out all the dinosaur bones and neat history artifacts.  Lately, I've been watching a ton of Discovery, Animal Planet, and History Channel documentaries and realized that I need to go visit a museum again.  Well, I didn't quite make it to one, so instead I just pulled out my 2013 Topps Museum collection of base cards and inserts and finally after many months of living behind ultra-pro page protectivity, they were able to breathe again (briefly) just for a scan.

Below is a lot of 4 cards I won for less than $7 shipped.
I absolutely love the base cards, but as a one time comicbook and sketch collector, I have to show off the inserts first...

The Canvas Collection inserts are beautifully drawn.  Topps even put a few original art sketches randomly into packs like the Cutch I showed off in July.  I'd like to own an original sketch of the Great One too.

Now for the base...

 This is what the Topps Museum base cards look like.  They aren't numbered, but do feature a nice frame (sorry for bad scan) around the card and a nice image of the player on the front.  Less is more when it comes to these.  They aren't over the top with a lot of bells and whistles and foiling and funky fonts.  Basic is better

The Willie Stargell above is a bronze parallel numbered 277/424.
