I like to get slabbed autograph rookies of the Pirates players that I enjoy watching.
Hence no Pedro Alvarez!
I kid. (Slightly)
Gerrit Cole has been a force to be reckoned with this year and I was lucky enough to finally add this BGS 9.5 Chrome Auto to my PC.
It seems like Gerrit Cole is always being featured on ESPN or MLB's Sunday game. I won't complain though because there was a looooooong time that the Pirates never got National coverage games.

Morton on the Mound: Factory Set Orange is MIIIIIIINNNNNNEEEEE!!!!
I'm going to do a double posting today because my favorite pitcher is on the mound for the Bucs tonight. Charlie Morton will be taking on the Cardinals in a few minutes and I will be listening to the game as I drive back home from a little Florida vacation. It seems appropriate to finally show off this beautiful piece of cardboard as I drive through the Sunshine State. The Orange & Blue Florida Gators fan base is in full effect on the roads today.
Despite having a higher number of cards produced, these factory set orange parallels always seem to be tougher to find than pink, black, etc parallels. The reason is simple. The only way to get them is to bust open your factory set and get a pack of random orange parallels inside.
I am still in pursuit of the 2011 orange parallel, but I can finally cross the 2014 from the Needs list. Excluding 1/1s the 2011 Orange is the only card that I don't have of Ground Chuck.

McCutchen Mailday #114: 2015 Bowman Gold /50
This 2015 Bowman Gold was an overpay ($10 delivered) and I regret the amount that it cost me, but it does bring me my 114th new Andrew McCutchen to the PC this year. My goal on January 1st was to add 100 new Cutch cards and I am blowing that away with nearly 4 months left to add cards. I have even made arrangements to purchase large lots of Cutch cards from a seller.

Throwback Thursday: A Simpsons Hand of 1952 Topps, a Pair of Clementes, and a Stargell
Nothing beats vintage deals
Here's a lot of cards I recently purchased from a vendor at a mall card show for $50. A pair of Clementes and a second year Stargell along with a Simpsons handful of 52s. I couldn't be happier to add these to the collection.
Hopefully by showing off some vintage, the Bucs can get back to their vintage ways and win some games again.

McCutchen Mailday #113: Jackie Robinson Tribute
An eBay 1/1 is my latest addition to the Cutch collection. Numbered 1/42 this 2015 Prizm Jackie Robinson variant cost me a cool $14.42 delivered. It's my 2nd Jackie Robinson parallel of Cutch as I already had the 2014 parallel from last year.
My Quest for 100 may reach 200 by the end of the year because I have a few large collections that I have made arrangements to purchase.

Going for the Gold!!!!
The Pirates are entering the home stretch as they currently have the 3rd best record in the major leagues, yet still trail the St. Louis Cardinals. Rosters will be expanding soon which is both a good and bad thing for baseball fans. For fans of teams who have already basically been eliminated from contention, it gives them a false sense of hope for next season to "see what the young kids can do". For fans of teams in playoff contention it means having to face rosters fully maxed out to prevent you from winning a game.
One player that I am hopeful the Pirates promote, but seriously doubt they will, is switch hitting speedy middle infielder Alen Hanson. I have seen Hanson play nearly a dozen times in the minors and his bat speed AND foot speed is unbelievable. The kid can flat out run and swing the bat. He would be a perfect pinch hit or pinch run option for the Pirates as they strive for a World Series berth.
I have added several nice Hanson cards to my collection over the past year, but this is by far the nicest of the bunch. Bowman Inception offers beautiful On Card Autographs of some of the game's upcoming prospects. The Gold Autos are numbered to only 5 copies and there are a few people out there trying to build the set. I'm glad I was finally able to add this to the collection.
