Football Sunday: That was disappointing

The Steelers game just ended a few hours ago and it was one of the most entertaining fun games I have seen all year .... Until the last three minutes.

Some questionable play calls by Coach Tomlin and a secondary that couldn't stop anything cause the Stillers to lose to the reigning NFC champs.

I recently purchased a large lot of Jerome Bettis cards and I now have 294 unique cards of the Bus.

McCutchen Mailday #227: Smooth As Silk

The latest addition to my Cutch purchases this year brings me this smooth as silk acquisition

Now my run of Cutch Silk Collections contains cards from 2014 (seen here), 2013, 2012, and 2011.

I'm not sure if Cutch had Silk cards in 2010 or 2009, but if he did I will have to try to track them down too.

McCutchen Mailday #226: Feeling Blue (not really)

I've been buying a lot of Christmas presents between last night and this morning. My wallet and bank account have taken a pounding.

So why not show off something I got for myself?  My Cutch additions will be slowing down over the next few weeks as I begin to prepare for Christmas. I still have close to a dozen left that I've purchased this year, but haven't gotten around to show off yet.

Gobble Gobble!!!!

With all the attention I have been putting towards my Andrew McCutchen PC this year, I have completely ignored adding cards to my Jason Bay PC.  This year has brought me only 2 new Jason Bay cards, but one of them was a big one containing future Hall of Famer, Miguel Cabrera.

As is customary for my blog, I started looking around for some new Turkey themed cards to show off on Thanksgiving around September.

This Turkey Red Silk Collection of the former Pirates outfielder struck my fancy for 99 cents

I hope everyone has a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving

McCutchen Mailday #225: Steel Patch!!!!

This one made me happy when I finally added it the first time.

It makes me happier to add a rarer version.  The patches for Alvarez and Cole are super nice!  Cutch has just a bit of yellow and black patch on his plain gray swatch.

I've slowed down buying cards for myself as the year wraps up, but I would say that I accomplished quite a bit considering that I only want to add 100 new Cutch cards to the PC this year.

McCutchen Mailday #224: The Letter C

ANOTHER 1/1 LETTER????

I just couldn't resist.
I'm getting dangerously close to spelling out McCutchen using letters from various releases.

McCutchen Mailday #223: Pure Badass Patch

I've added a few triple threads Cutch cards to the collection this year, but this is the first that features 3 players who played in the Post Season this year for multiple teams.

Joey Bats hit a mammoth and memorable HomeRun against the Rangers to send Toronto to the Championship Series.  As many of you may know, I am a huge Jose Bautista fan, but am starting to sell off my Joey Bats collection including the 1/1 bat knob.

Cutch will continue to be my main focus on my PC.

Cespedes will be a free agent this year and it should be interesting to see where he ends up.  Over the past two years he has played on 4 teams.  I actually like New York's chances of resigning him.

I previously showed off this card almost a year ago to the day, but have now added a more rare version of it as my Cutch PC this year added over 200 new cards to the collection

McCutchen Mailday #220-222: A Trio of Relics invades the PTR

The Steelers have a bye week so no football cards today.  Instead, I will just continue to show off more Cutch cards that I have added to the PC this year.

A trio of relics.
I've shown off a few plain color relics of Cutch this year
This latest trio includes a 2015 Topps Heritage Clubhouse Collection, a 2014 Topps Tribute, and a 2013 Bowman Platinum Cutting Edge Relics

Nothing too fancy.  Just a smorgasbord of random jersey colors on some nice looking cardboard.

McCutchen Mailday #215-219: 5 more parallels of Cutch

Today was another good mailday as I got in 5 more Cutch parallels including
2015 Donruss 1981

a pair of Elite Die Cuts from 2011 and 2014
a pair of Chromes (2008 Bowman Chrome and 2009 Heritage)

McCutchen Mailday #214: 3D SICK PATCH!!!!

WOW!!!!

CHECK THIS OUT!!!
This latest Cutch patch card features 3 separate patches o a 3D looking card from 2015 Triple Threads.  There's a handful more of these on ebay right now and I am tempted to buy them all.  None of them have bad patches and a few even have the Jolly Roger.

Cutch finished with his 4th straight top 5 MVP season. Not bad for a guy with only 6 full seasons under his belt.

McCutchen Mailday #210, 211, and 212: Blue Saphire Canary

My three most recent Cutch additions to the PC in 2015 are a trio of parallels that sound like quite the rare bird.

The canary is my favorite.

I love Triple Threads this year.  Incredible design by Topps!

My Prizm rainbow is getting close to being completed.

McCutchen Mailday #209: Another 1/1 Bowman

My latest Andrew McCutchen added to the PC this year, is another 1/1 of the former MVP.
This White Ice 1/1 ran me $50, but I bought it during one of eBay's triple ebay bucks rewards so it helped make the decision a little easier.

Cutch had a bit of a down year by his standards, but still finished with a triple slash line of nearly .300/.400/.500, which was good enough to earn him his 4th straight Silver Slugger award.

I know the Pirates don't tend to spend big during Free Agency, but I would love to see them get Cutch some support in the lineup and offer protection to just pitching around him.

McCutchen Mailday #208: RUN PMC!!!! SICK LOGO PATCH

I just said a few days ago that I wanted to complete the rainbow of this card and this is one of the rarer of the different versions.

Numbered 2/3, this "Guarding the Alleys" three patch relic of RunPMC features a grimacing upside down Jolly Roger sleeve patch for the Marte part.

The one thing I don't like about this card is the old photos used for both Cutch and Polanco. Even though you can't see Cutch's dreads you know this card features a photo of the perenial MVP candidate used in prior years releases.

The Polanco photo features his 40 man jersey number (62) prior to being added to the 25 man roster and current jersey (25). Polanco debuted mid season in 2014. For such a highly noted prospect, he should have plenty of photos Topps could have used for this late 2015 release.

McCutchen Mailday #207: Trip Trip Triple Threads

My quest to add 100 new Andrew McCutchen cards to my PC this year was surpassed at the season's All-Star game.  I added another 100 new Cutch cards over the course of 3 months after it thanks to some large lots.

I absolutely love the design for 2015 Triple Threads and I have been adding as many as possible to the PC. If I show off only 1 Cutch card that I've purchased in 2015 each day, it will bleed into 2016. I am very proud of how much my Cutch PC has improved this year.

McCutchen Mailday #205 & 206: Sick Triple Threads All-Star Patch & Triple Threads Triple Player Addition

My latest McCutchen Mailday has a pair of 2015 Triple Threads that I am very excited to add to the PC.  Cutch has been the main focus of my collecting habits this year and I will admit, I have added way more cards of him than I thought I ever would own.  As I type this, it's only October 1st and I am looking at nearly a month's worth of Cutch cards scheduled to appear on future posts.  That's just insane!!!!
Cutch has been an NL All-Star the past five seasons and has started in the past two All-Star games.  This year was something special as he hit a HomeRun in his last plate appearance of the evening.  To date Cutch has a triple slash line of .273/.273/.545 with 2 SB and 1 HR.
RunPMC is my favorite way the Pirates set the Lineup.
Polanco
Marte
Cutch
There's just so much speed at the top of that lineup.  The Pirates need a big bopper in the four hole that also makes consistent at bats.  Neil Walker seemed like a good choice to begin the year, but he failed to match his career offensive numbers in 2015.
As more and more RunPMC cards start to show up, I am certain that I will be adding more as time goes on.  I'm likely going to try and complete the rainbow of this card "Guarding the Alleys" is a cool saying.

McCutchen Mailday #204: Seeing Red

I've been piecing together the 2015 Topps Gallery of Greats rainbow of Cutch for about a month and quickly completed it.  It feels great (no pun intended) to be able to finally complete a rainbow of Cutch. I've started a bunch, but have always missed out on the Superfractors whenever they pop up (which is almost never).

Behold the power of red...

And here they all are together.
On a side note, it's not an official rainbow because I am sadly missing the base still.  With so many available in the $1 range, I'm hopeful that one day soon I can add a copy of it.

McCutchen Mailday #203: Back in Time

I'm not a huge fan of buybacks or remarket products, but for some reason I am finding myself trying to grab Cutch's Allen & Ginter minis remarked for the 2015 10th Anniversary.

This is my second mini I have added this year from the 10th Anniversary Issue foil stamping.  It's from 2013.  If anyone comes across any other framed mini buybacks, please let me know.

McCutchen Mailday #202: Another 1/1 Letter Patch

Four McCutchen Maildays in a row have been 1/1s.  I think I am legit going insane with my collection this year for adding Cutch cards.  The goal was to just add 100 new Cutch cards by year's end and I have destroyed that goal.

This is my 5th 1/1 Jersey Letter of Cutch I have acquired this year.
I currently sit at 61 1/1s which includes a few that I haven't shown off yet.

McCutchen Mailday #201: Another 1/1 Red Paper Bowman

Yesterday, I showed off my very first 1/1 Superfractor of Cutch.  It marked a string of recent 1/1 purchases I have been making of Cutch lately.  Today, I am going to show off my 31st 1/1 of Cutch I have added to the PC this year.  Overall, I sit at 61 1/1s of Cutch.  Yup 61!!!!

Way back in February I showed my 1/1 red paper parallel from 2012 Bowman that had been slightly damaged in the mail en route to my house.  In my recent Ash Kethum, gotta "catch em all" craze to grab any Andrew McCutchen cards, I came across the 2013 Bowman 1/1 red paper for $50.

The paper parallels sell for a considerable amount less than the chrome parallels, but when putting together the rainbows, they are just as impressive.

Surprisingly I still need a handful of the 2013 Bowman paper cards to complete the rainbow.  Now that I have gotten the hardest one to acquire, the rest should be fairly easy to check off.

Join me tomorrow as I show off another 1/1 to the PC.

McCutchen Mailday #200: My first Superfractor of Cutch

This is it!!!! The big new addition to the Cutch PC this year as I have doubled my goal to add 100 new Cutch cards.

I've already shown off a few of the these Gallery of Greats chasing the rainbow parallels.
The rainbow is almost complete. I still need that darn base version though.

MINT!!!!

There's a joke I'm sure that a guy that hasn't pitched in almost two years shouldn't get a lot of Mint cards.

I grabbed this card essentially for free by using some eBay bucks.

McCutchen Mailday #188: Another one down....

Here it is, another Andrew McCutchen parallel.  This is the orange parallel from 2015 Topps Chrome Gallery of Greats.  I have already shown off the Gold and stated I wanted to chase the rainbow.  With the Red, Base, and Superfractor still on my radar, this rainbow could be extremely tough to complete but I have faith that I can complete it before year's end.

We are approaching the second century mark of passing my 2015 Goal to add only 100 new Cutch cards to the PC this year.

McCutchen Mailday #199: My Second 1/1 Logoman of Cutch

Not too long ago, I showed off my first 1/1 Logoman of Cutch.  Today, I have added a second.

This one is a little nicer as it features Cutch's home white uniform and perfectly centered logoman.

I am one card away from doubling my goal to add 100 new Cutch cards to the PC this year.

I have already received it and gotta say it's one of a kind and my 1st to be added to the Cutch PC.

Glasnow Patch, WOW!!!

It's my first Tyler Glasnow jersey relic and for the price I paid for this "player worn" unlicensed card, I couldn't pass it up.

McCutchen Mailday #191 - 198: Some Massive New Additions to the Cutch PC

Here's a lot of some huge MOJO PC pickups.

In my quest to add 100 new Cutch cards to the PC this year, I have become the go to guy for a person liquidating their collections.  This All-Star patch card from 2012 Triple Threads is fricking sick!!!!

In this lot is a group of jersey relics, triple threads relics, a rookie variant, a nice gold parallel, and this amazing manu relic from Gypsy Queen.

How nice are these new additions?  If Harper becomes an MVP this year, it will feature the 3 most recent position players to win MVPs.  Braun 2012, Cutch 2013, Harper 2015?

I've been wanting to add a copy of this "Steel" since I saw it released in 2014, but never could acquire one cheap enough for my liking.
Check out the tiny bit of yellow stitching on the grey swatch
My first die cut relic

Just your standard gold parallel from Topps Tribute.  This card looks beautiful in person. I'm going to build the rainbow of this card.

Another Cutch rookie parallel that I didn't have in my collection. This is the mahogany wood parallel from 2005 Bowman Heritage.

Football Sunday: Markus Wheaton Auto

We are in the 11th month of the year already so here's my only certified autograph of #11.

The Steelers loss to the Bengals today and suffered another devastating injury that will affect their season success when Le'Veon Bell left with a gruesome knee injury.
