Bay Collection Hits 38

WOW! My Jason Bay hits collection has already reached 38 (Bay's jersey number while with the Pirates).  It's been awhile since I highlighted a Bay card on the blog so to recap here's all the cards leading up to card number 38.

THE AUTOS (10)
Nothing quite beats an on card autograph for me and many of my Jason Bay autos are on card.  The Sweet Spot "ball" auto was my first Bay auto I owned and it's what started this collection.  The cheapest I've bought a Bay auto for was $4.75 and the most I bought a Bay auto was $12 (UD Black)
Special Thanks to Drew for trading me the UD Stroke of Genius auto last month.

THE AUTOS WITH JERSEY (4)
Jerseys & Autos go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Alone they're good, but together they're great.  This is the area of my collection I want to grow the most.  It's also the most expensive part of my collection to try to grow.  The cheapest I've been able to pick up a Bay auto with jersey swatch has been $8.25.  The Emblems with the multi colored patch cost me like $25.

JERSEY CARDS (13)
Jersey cards are fun to collect and often times can be rather inexpensive.  The cheapest jersey relic I have ever bought of Jason Bay was .75.  Yup .75!!!!!  Often times though, they hover between $2-$5.  I'm going to keep adding unique Jason Bay jersey cards to my collection as they become available.
Special Thanks to The Daily Dimwit for trading me the Masterpieces jersey.

ALL-STAR JERSEY (2)
Jason Bay has appeared in 3 All-Star games so far.  Each year, Topps puts out an All-Star stitches card using "event worn" jersey pitches of all the All-Star participants.  I have both of the cards from his All-Star appearances while being a member of the Pirates.  I still need to add the 2009 Updates & Highlights All-Star Jersey to my collection.  Anyone got one for trade?

MULTI-PLAYER CARDS WITH A JASON BAY JERSEY(3)
This is another area that I would like to improve on.  Jason Bay has been featured on many cards with other players and all I have to show for it is 4 cards (3 jersey/1 bat).  I intend to up this part of my collection greatly over the next couple months and currently have some items on ebay that I'm watching.  Here's hoping I can get 40 more by the end of the year.  These multiplayer cards can run between $4 to $15.

BAT CARDS (3)
There hasn't been many cards of Bay featuring his bat.  I don't know why.  He's one of only 3 Canadians to hit 200 MLB career homeruns (Matt Stairs & Larry Walker are the others).  Hopefully there's a lot more bat cards out there that I just don't know about and I will discover them all in one giant lot for very little money.  Um, I doubt that would happen.  The 2007 Topps bat card is my favorite of the bunch.  I think I won it for around $6 shipped.

PATCHES (2)
Cards with patches are my favorite to collect, but they're so damn expensive.  The Exquisite Collection ran me over $20 and the Game Patch was $8, but the regular jersey card of that was only $2.50. It's going to be a challenge to try to get a lot more patches this year without breaking the bank.

. . . . . . . . . . .
ALL LEADING UP TO THIS
MY 38TH JASON BAY HIT
A really nice 2008 UPPER DECK PREMIER SWATCHES 3 colored 3 piece jersey card numbered 29/38

This is my 38th Jason Bay hit to add to my collection.  I'm actually impressed with how quickly I was able to get to 38 so far this year.  My goal was to have 44 unique Bay hits by the end of the year.  I think that's easily attainable so I'm going to set the bar really high for myself.  With my tax refund and work bonus coming I am going to devote myself to attaining the following amount of Jason Bay cards by the end of the year
-4 1/1s (currently at 0)
44 AUTOs (currently at 10)
44 AUTO w/jersey (currently at 4)
44 Multiplayer cards featuring a Bay hit (currently at 4)

What do you guys think? Am I out of my mind?

  2. I think you should aim for "38" of each of the categories, since that is his jersey number. Unless 44 is a more significant number.

  3. His current number with the Mets is 44. That's why I'm shooting for that number. 38 is more realistic though.

  4. Oy Bay! I don't think I have that many game used/auto cards in my entire collection.
